Plain-English summary. Palate is a recipe-recommendation app. It suggests meals based on the preferences you give us. The recipes are generated by AI — please double-check ingredients before cooking, especially if you have allergies or dietary restrictions. Palate is not medical advice. If you have a health condition, talk to a doctor or dietitian. By using Palate you agree to the rules below.

1. Who you’re contracting with

These Terms form a binding agreement between you and Bayes Strategies BV, a Belgian besloten vennootschapwith registered seat at Coupure Rechts 58, 9000 Ghent, Belgium, registered with the Crossroads Bank for Enterprises (KBO/BCE) under number 1023.000.107, VAT BE 1023.000.107, operating the Service under the trade name “Palate” (referred to in these Terms as “Palate”, “we”, “us”, “our”).

Contact: privacy@trypalate.app

These Terms apply each time you access the Palate website or PWA at https://trypalate.app (the “Service”).

2. The Service

Palate suggests recipes and grocery lists based on the dietary preferences, allergies, household setup and cooking history you choose to share. Recipe text and recipe images are produced by third-party AI models (currently Anthropic Claude and Replicate Flux). The Service is provided “as is” and the recipe output is generated automatically — we do not pre-review every recipe before it reaches you.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. By signing up, you confirm you meet that requirement.

4. Your account

You are responsible for:

  • the accuracy of the information you provide (in particular allergies and dietary presets — incorrect input will produce incorrect recipes);
  • keeping your login credentials confidential;
  • all activity that takes place under your account.

If you suspect unauthorised access, email privacy@trypalate.app immediately.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service for any unlawful purpose;
  • attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape at scale, or interfere with the Service’s normal operation;
  • submit content that is illegal, infringing, defamatory, hateful, or that contains personal data of third parties without their permission;
  • use the Service to generate medical, dietary, legal, or professional advice for re-sale or redistribution;
  • attempt to bypass the AI safety controls or extract the underlying prompts/model weights;
  • create accounts in someone else’s name without authorisation.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach this section.

6. AI-generated content — important disclaimers

6.1 Recipes are generated by AI

Recipe titles, ingredients, cooking instructions, nutritional commentary and images are produced automatically by AI models. They may contain errors, omissions, outdated information, or recommendations that are inappropriate for you specifically. Always read the full recipe and apply common sense before cooking.

6.2 Allergens and intolerances — read every time

We do not guarantee that any recipe is free of common allergens (gluten, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, eggs, dairy, fish, shellfish, sesame, mustard, celery, sulphites, lupin, molluscs). Even if you have set an allergy in your profile, the AI may make mistakes or use ingredients whose hidden composition contains the allergen. You must read each recipe carefully and verify every ingredient label before consumption. If you have a severe or anaphylactic allergy, do not rely on Palate alone to keep you safe.

6.3 Not medical or dietary advice

Palate is an informational and culinary tool. Nothing in the Service constitutes medical, nutritional, dietary, or therapeutic advice, and the Service is not a medical device. The “diabetic-friendly”, “low sodium”, “low cholesterol” and similar dietary presets are personal preferences, not clinical recommendations. They are intended for users who have already chosen, with their own healthcare professional, to follow such a dietary pattern. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before making dietary changes related to a health condition.

6.4 Not a nutrition claim

Tags such as “high in protein”, “rich in fibre”, “omega-3-rich” reflect general culinary description and have not been verified against the thresholds set by Regulation (EC) 1924/2006. Nutritional values (where displayed) are estimates produced by the AI and should not be relied upon for medical or weight-management decisions.

7. Intellectual property

7.1 Our IP

The Palate name, logo, design, code, copy, and all elements of the Service are owned by Bayes Strategies BV and are protected by copyright, trademark and other applicable laws. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own private, non-commercial purposes.

7.2 AI-generated recipes

To the extent recipes generated by the Service are eligible for copyright protection under Belgian law, you are granted a non-exclusive licence to use them for your personal, non-commercial cooking purposes. Re-publication of generated recipes (e.g. on a blog or commercial site) is permitted provided you do not present them as human-authored or attribute them to Palate without our prior written consent. We do not claim ownership of the idea of any recipe (recipe ideas are generally not protectable under EU law).

7.3 Your input

You retain ownership of any feedback, ratings, or free-text input you submit. By submitting it, you grant Palate a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to use it to operate and improve the Service.

8. Right of withdrawal

If a paid feature is offered in the future and you are a consumer in the EU, you will benefit from the 14-day right of withdrawal under Belgian Code of Economic Law Book VI. Where you ask us to start a digital service immediately and acknowledge that doing so means you lose the right of withdrawal, that loss applies as set out in Art. VI.53, 13°. Today, Palate is free.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy of AI-generated content.
  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special or punitive damages, lost profits, lost data, or any harm caused by your reliance on AI-generated recipes (in particular, allergic reactions or other health consequences arising from cooking or eating a recipe suggested by the Service).
  • Our total aggregate liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to the greater of (i) €100 or (ii) the amount you have paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.

Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for fraud, gross negligence, wilful misconduct, death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or any other liability that cannot be limited under Belgian law. This includes Belgian consumer-protection rules under Code of Economic Law Book VI, which take precedence where they grant you broader rights.

10. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold Palate harmless from any third-party claim arising out of (a) your breach of these Terms, (b) your misuse of the Service, or (c) your violation of any law or third-party right.

11. Suspension and termination

You can stop using the Service at any time and delete your account from the profile settings (or by emailing privacy@trypalate.app). We can suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms or if we discontinue the Service, in which case we will give you reasonable advance notice and offer you a way to export your data.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination (IP, disclaimers, limitation of liability, governing law) survive.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms when our Service or the law changes. For material changes (e.g. introducing paid plans, new mandatory restrictions on use), we will notify you in-app and by email at least 30 daysbefore the change takes effect; for non-material changes (clarifications, typos, vendor name updates), we will simply update the “Last updated” date.

If you keep using the Service after a material change takes effect, you accept the new Terms. If you do not accept them, you must stop using the Service and may close your account.

13. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by Belgian law. Any dispute will be brought before the courts of Brussels, without prejudice to mandatory consumer-protection rules that grant you the right to bring proceedings in the courts of your place of residence.

You can also try to resolve the dispute out of court via the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform: ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr
